Welcome to the Wellington Fire Support website. We hope you will come to find out more about us and the role we fulfill in the Wellington Fire District.
You may have arrived here because you are thinking becoming a volunteer in our unit, or because you just want to find out a bit more about what we do. Whatever your reason, "Welcome!"
United Nations International Day of the Volunteer
The United Nations Volunteers’ Day 2011 was celebrated on 5 December marks 10 years since the first International Year of the Volunteer (IYV). The report finds that volunteerism is truly international in nature and, among other beneficial outcomes, it empowers people to build better lives.
To acknowledge the work of volunteers the United Nations has awarded medals to volunteers. This medal was presented to members of the Unit and to Johnsonville and Newlands Volunteer Fire Brigades at a ceremony by Her Worship the Mayor of Wellington, Celia Wade Brown on 8 February 2012.Those who have already received the medal (in 2001) received a bar. Photos of recipients with Her Worship the Mayor can be viewed on the Photos page.
